In 1985 an elective Sculpture class taken at Virginia Commonwealth University ignited a fire in Christian Rubeck. After that introduction, Interior Design seemed dull and mundane - enough to prompt a Major change. Rubeck’s first “found objects” were pulled from the alleys of Richmond, Virginia, mainly because they were easily accessible and more importantly, free. One of his first pieces titled “Love seat” started with a discarded restaurant booth and some partially burned plywood.
Rubeck usually begins with a single object pulled from a vast pallet of collected materials in his studio located in North Kingstown, RI. Some of the materials include, bowling alley floor, motorcycle wheels, re-configured chairs, airplane propellers, copper, aluminum, leather and wood – to name a few. The single chosen piece then goes through the process of juxtaposition against many other materials until the heavens open and the trumpets sound.
Rubeck has exhibited throughout the east coast and extensively in the New England states, including Gallery Z, Colo Colo Gallery, Candita Clayton Gallery, Coastal Living Gallery and is represented by ArtProv Gallery in Providence, Rhode Island.
