In April 2021, we invited four guest artists, Moran, Jones, Raymond, Knight and one gallery artist, Porter, to curate an exhibition where each one either very clearly, more inconspicuously or abstractly, incorporates text in their artworks. It was quite a feast for the eyes and when the lights went down in Newport, the neon illuminated our space so magnificently. Moran's cardboard signs, once installed as a whole, became his Artist Statement. We watched people stop to read his quick, witty and often pun-like stenciled 'text messages' for the world to ponder. In one case, an onlooker felt infuriated by one of these signs and shouted his way down the street in protest. All press is good press, as they say...
